Healing Hearts News:

Drive to Reach to the Children of Newtown Brings in Thousands of Gifts. Thank You.

EAST HARTFORD, CT, Dec. 22, 2012 – Several thousand toys flooded into the drop-off points for Healing Hearts, a supportive effort to reach out to the children Newtown. Today, the group reported that they dropped off the gifts with an 18 foot tractor trailer truck to that was close to full. They delivered them to Toys for Tots Fairfield County, the Marine Corps effort that covers Newtown.

All day, people continued to contribute to the drive in five locations. It was capped by a four-hour drive at Goodwin College. Other locations that collected gifts throughout the week included: Audio Media Solutions in East Hartford, Templo Fe in Hartford, Curtis Packaging, Shipping & Receiving Department in Sandy Hook and Suso Restaurant (which will accept gifts until Sunday, Dec. 23).

"People were so generous," marvels the group's founder, Steve Sattler. "They put a lot of thought and meaning into many of the gifts they dropped off. We are frankly overwhelmed with the response to an effort we began less than a week ago."

Sattler, a TV director and videographer called in all his favors with friends in the communications business the day after the tragedy. By Monday afternoon, the group of volunteers had created a website, a Facebook page, a press release and adapted an original song in honor of the 26 people who lost their lives. The song was co-written by Tom Russo of L&R Productions, with Paul Lombardo. "Till We See You Again" is posted on YouTube. Radio personality Mary Jones brought her talents to the effort with special mentions on her show, "The Mary Jones Show" on WDRC-AM; Spanish media marketing expert Marilyn Alverio used her experience to reach out to the Hispanic community and public relations professional Andrea Obston of Andrea Obston Marketing Communications was brought in to spread the word through traditional and social media. Steve Parker – of Radio & TV helped on writing and getting the word out"! Capping off the effort was Jeffrey Cohen of Imageworks, who donated the website. Sattler called in a few more favors to get transportation for the donations through West Hill Automotive of Newington and the Windsor Marketing Group of Windsor Locks…. "Everyone I called said 'yes' when I asked them to donate their time," says Sattler.
